Group Conversation

In our group we like the name 'The Cloud' because its clever as clouds are omnipresent. We dislike 'World Life' because its to formal for the type of newspaper we have designed.
My group like the block design of my page and think it is suitable.
For the TV listings page amy is using the title 'What's on TV this week?' we like this as it comes across as a question.
For the Article page amy is using the title 'miracle drug that keeps you alive longer!' we like this as it is to the point and clear.

5 possible titles for newspaper

5 titles for newspaper:
The Cloud – this is suitable because clouds are in the sky above everything so clouds see everything, so this newspaper has everything you need to know in it.
Connected – this name is like you staying connected to the world, hearing all the latest gossip, etc.
The Voice – this name is like saying everyone has a voice and opinion and this newspaper cares about that.
World Life – this name is the world and our life.
One World – this name uses 'one so makes the reader feel like they are all equal and all involved.

Target Audience for our newspaper

The target audience for our newspaper is the younger generation 20 - late 30s. We designed our newspaper to appeal to people who like celebrity gossip and the latest trends but as well as the business type and sport lovers. The writing is clear and simple so people who don't have time to read a lot can enjoy the same stories.
My newspaper page is the front cover so i have tried to include a little bit for everyone so men and women can relate to it.

Newspaper Discussion

In our group we have decided to create a tabloid, we have chosen this because a tabloid is more about advertising and celebrities, and thats what we would prefer to write about. Because we like more modern things. I am going to make the front cover, with a main story heading being something like 'New drug that helps you live longer!' then inside Amy is going to do an article about it or do an advert. I wanted to take the role of creating the front cover because i would enjoy this.

Perfume Advert

Wednesday 22 June 2011

1. How does your finished product compare to your design?
My design and finished product are quite similar however the model is different but the picture of the product and writing are in the same place/style. I changed the model to a close up picture instead of a body view. I did this because i think the closer image is more effect.

2. How has technology (computer, digital camera and computer software) helped you turn your design into a real product?
Photoshop on the Apple Mac’s have helped me to create this advert by putting all the elements together. I also used the internet, mainly Google, which i got my pictures from. Using the cameras in school also helped me get a clear image of how i wanted my picture to look. I took pictures of different people, poses and angles.

 3. Do you feel your product is suitable for your target audience?
I think my product is suitable for my target audience because its mainly aimed for woman aged 20+ and the advert gets this age range across to the audience well. Younger girls may find this advert to seductive but i think that the intended audience would like this.

 4. Describe two challenges you have overcome?
2 challenges i overcome:
    - One problem i dealt with was trying to create my bottle; because I wanted horns on it no existing bottle has that so I had to try and create it from scratch.

    - Another problem i had was colouring the bottle to the colour I wanted which was difficult because it needs to look realistic.

5. Describe the technical skills you have gained?
I have learned how to colour in Photoshop, manipulate images on Photoshop, how to add backgrounds on Photoshop and how to create an advert.

My Findings

My results show that i only need to make one change.
I was going to use the font ‘Copperplate’ however ‘Lucida calligraphy’ is the one most people said i should do. I am going to change this because i think this one would work nicely and most people said that this one would go with my name and advert better. They also said that they liked the idea of my product and thought everything else was good.

5 names for my product

Sinner? – I like this name the best because it’s like asking the audience a question and gives a strong message. Makes you want to know more.

Pure Love – I like this because it’s fresh, pure and natural. However I don’t think this name suits my perfume the best.

Becca – this is my name and the name of the company, big names like Gucci do this and stands out because no one else has this particular name.

Seductive – I like this because its sexy and describes my perfume perfectly. However it doesn’t have the same feel as some others but is different and makes you want to find out more.

Heated – I like this name because it creates an image of love, seductiveness and power.

5 fonts for my product

Sinner? – I like this one because its clear and the flicked letters give it a girly and seductive feel.

Sinner? – This is clear and spread out, its not my favourite choose.

Sinner? This is good because its clear and simple yet effective and the curl on the ‘S’ gives it a twist.

Sinner?   - This looks quite evil and isn’t the clearest one but is quite effective.

Sinner? I think this is quite good because it’s different and looks burnt. The burnt look links with the devil and image of hell and fire.

Advertising Proposal

In order to create an advertising proposal, I need gather information about the company that makes a product, where it wants to advertise, what its wants the advertising to achieve and how much it has to spend.

The advertising budget for my campaign to advertise (name and purpose of your product) is £100,000.

What do you want your adverts to achieve?
I want my adverts to introduce a brand new product and to make the product popular and wanted.

What type of advertising will suit your campaign?
I'll use print advertising (magazines) and online.

Describe the type of print advert you have in mind?
I would include a picture of the product, the product and brand name, price, website page, colours (red and black), wag theme, to attract the sexy and posh women’s attention.

What is the target market?
My target audience are women 20+, wealthy working and so wealthy they don’t have to work and wags, women who like to be centre of attention, sexy and posh but i also want to get people interested in perfume.

my product

My product is a brand new perfume, called Sinner? I choose this name because it’s like a rhetorical question saying ‘can you handle this perfume’ and ‘are you brave enough to buy this’. As this is my product and created by me i thought the brand name would be called Becca. I choose to do perfume because it’s something i am interested in and i have alot of different perfumes. My target audience would be women 20+ who like to be centre of attention, posh and sexy. Wealthy women who have high class jobs or women so wealthy they don’t need to work. The perfume bottle will be in the shape of a devils head and will be red glass. Sinner links with a devil so i thought i would use this to make it unique.

My Perfume Product

My product is perfume. My perfume will be aimed at women who are 25+. My magazine is for the more wealthy women so my perfume has to fit into this theme as well. My perfume is for those women who like to be centre of attention, sexy and are slightly posh. Wags buy this perfume so whatever women want to be like the biggest wags should buy this. The name of my perfume is Sinner? which is a rhetorical question and makes people look at themselves as people and makes them think 'are you brave enough to buy this' and 'can you handle this perfume'. My unique selling point is the bottle which is a devil's head and the devil horns are the nosels. The bottles made from glass and is see through with a tint of black; the writing is red and the horns are also red. The price of this is £45 for a small bottle because its mainly for the wealthier women but also quite affordable so people less wealthier could save up for it.

About my double page spread

My Double Page Spread

My double page spread is on nicki minaj because she is really big at the moment. The audience of my magazine is woman ages 18+, nicki minaj is popular with this audience right now so making a double page spread on her is good and fresh.
I used a magazine article page to help me get started; it had the persons name in a colour and big font. So I put her name in a big font to show straight away who it is and put it in pink to contrast with her hair in the picture and as she is young and new, the hot pink I’ve used adds a flirty and fun feeling which reflects her. The picture takes up a whole page and is a photo shoot image. I picked this one because its long and she looks glamorous and unique. Its colourful which adds more colour to the pages as the main writing is black. I filled the background in light grey because I didn’t want it white as it looks to plain and boring so adding even a hint of colour brings out all the elements on the pages. For the title I used Lucida Handwriting because its slightly flicked and looks oriental and she is from that part of the world. For the main writing I used Tahoma because it’s a clear, standard writing and isn’t difficult to read. I added a speech bubble quoting something she said, to make the reader want to carry on reading about her. I filled this in green to catch the reader’s eye. From another magazine they used an arrow to show that the article is carried on over the next page. I added this is because it’s a good element that I want to include in my magazine. I filled it in pink. The same pink as the title and with an arrow in white to contrast the dark pink.

This double page spread fits with my magazine because I’ve used fresh colours and a modern person to do it on.

About my contents page

My Contents Page

I used a magazine to help me with my own contents page. I have a big picture at the top of my contents page. The picture is of a girl sitting on a step on the street, she looks really chic and fashionable. This picture sends out a message that ‘if you buy the clothes we advertise you can look good even sitting on the street’. This reassures people they will look good with the clothes in this magazine. The shoes the woman is wearing are the piece of clothing my magazine are advertising but its better to have someone with the whole outfit so they know what sort of clothes to put with the shoes and then they will be more persuaded to buy the shoes.

The bold writing in the middle saying ‘In Spotlight…’ is the eye-catching writing so you know it’s a contents page. I chose to write ‘In Spotlight…’ instead of contents page because it reminds people of the magazine name and makes it more interesting.

The actual contents of the magazine I have split up into easy sections. I have Fashion & Beauty as one, Celebrity as another and Real Life and Every Week as two more. However the pages are not in order they are mixed up so the reader doesn’t get bored of reading just Fashion & Beauty, etc. I used blue to background the sections, I used blue because it’s a calm colour it creates a relaxed atmosphere. The things that are on the front cover have cover story next to them so if the reader is looking for a exact thing its easy to find it. I have a picture of a celebrity to break the writing up. I used pink for the page numbers because it complements the blue and the pink gives off a sense of love without being as harsh as red. I used black as the stories because it’s a statement colour and is always in fashion; also the blue and pink take the harshness of the black down to make it come together as a good calm relaxing environment.

I have thought about the little details that the other magazine had. It had a subscription at the bottom I added that in to.

About my magazine article

My Magazine Article

My magazine article is about fashion. I think it fits into my magazine genre, as some items on it are quite expensive but not designer. I didn’t choose to put designer items on there because not a lot of people who buy this magazine could afford to buy them.

My main title is word art Arial black size 36. It has a black fill and purple outline. I choose these features for my main title because they are bold and eye catching also the purple outline brings the black out to make it even more eye catching. The writing underneath the main title is Bradley Hand ITC size 10. I choose this because it gives the page a feminine and calm feel. For the paragraphs I used Tahoma size 12 because it’s a clear and easy to read font. For the ‘Spring Colours’ writing I used Arial black size 22 in pink. I used pink to break the black up on the page. For the writing ‘Get These Hot Heels’ I used Carbon Block size 26 in blue. I used this because it’s bold and bright. For the writing ‘We Love…’ I used Arial black size 20 in red. I used red because I have pictures around it and it draws your eyes into the middle. Also the red connotations for love, lust, desire and passion. For the writing in the black boxes I used Tahoma size 9 in white. The white writing against the black background works well and makes it stand out.

I used bright pictures to make the reader want to pick it up and look at it. I used Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez as the two celebrities for the page because they were wearing the same colours as what I wanted to put on my page and they looked nice and fresh. I found three dresses that were not too expensive and looked appropriate for my magazine genre. They were also the same colours as what I wanted on the page. I also found some heels from river island which were eye catching and different. I used a headband that is cream and has detail on it, a statement ring, a big chunky necklace and long feather earrings for my ‘We Love…’ section. These are all eye catching and unique. Also these four items are popular so people are more liking to what to look at them.

I put prices next to all my products so readers will know how much they are and where to get them.

I used a fashion magazine for inspiration and ideas. I learnt that all the little parts of a fashion page have to come together as one and all the fonts and colours need to complement each other.

5 fonts for my magazine

Times - i choose this because its formal and i like the shapes of the letters and suits my social class of my magazine. It also went well with my picture.

Tahoma - i didn't choose this for my title because its to informal and doesn't look like a magazine title font, however i did use this font for my little stories on the front of my magazine.

Comic Sans MS - i didn't choose this because its to young and round letters and didn't meet the social class of the rest of my magazine.

Century Gothic - i was going to choose this because its similar to Times however Times looked better for my magazine.

Arial Black - i didn't choose this because its to bold and didn't look right for my magazine and clashed with my picture.

Block design of my magazine

5 titles for magazine

Spotlight - I choose this because its suitable for the target audience and social class. Its a good name as everything in this magazine is in the 'spotlight'.

Blush - I didn't choose this because i think it sounds more of a make-up magazine.

Passion - I didn't choose this because it doesn't sound the social class i wanted my magazine to be. It also sounds to young for the magazine.

Glam - I didn't choose this because there's a magazine called 'Glamour' and I wanted mine to be more original and fresh.

Chic - I didn't choose this because I thought this was to much of an expensive name and to common.
